School Psychological Intervention Program (SPIP)

School Psychological Intervention Program (SPIP)
Helping children achieve their best. In school. At home. In life.

Schools play a significant role in addressing the physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors related to health and well-being that can affect learning of children. Schools that adopt an integrated approach to planning and problem-solving to meet students’ needs are more likely to position them for success in school and throughout their lifetimes.

School Psychological Intervention Program (SPIP) is a part of the psychological services of SHAPES (Society for Health and Psychology Enabled Services) SHAPES offer comprehensive assessment and consultation services to teachers, students and families with respect to the cognitive, academic and social/emotional well-being of students.   SHAPES experts are working in both area psychology and education. We address the educational, emotional, social, and behavioral challenges that many children, youth, and young adults experience.  The theme of our program is based on the understanding of human development, psychopathology, the impact of culture, learning theory, the principles of effective instruction and effective schools, and the impact of parenting styles and family functioning on child’s personality formation, mental set and emotional stability.

We evaluate learning and emotional/behavioral strengths and needs of individual students through:
• Classroom observations
• Review of school records
• Informal measures and task analysis
• Standardized assessment measures
• Interviews with parents, students, school personnel and other agencies

Assessment findings are used to develop program modifications/coping and strategies. Our focus is an integrated understanding of the whole child.
